Avery Friedman

Civil Rights Lawyer & Law Professor

The Fair Housing Act doesn’t stop when you get into a house. It covers everything relating to housing including lending and bank practices. Your situation is expressly covered.

Called a “walking reference source” on civil rights by The Wall Street Journal, Avery is a nationally recognized civil rights lawyer and law professor.  Former NAACP Board Chairman and legendary civil rights champion Julian Bond cited Avery as a “true freedom fighter” and “an artist in the courtroom.”

A weekend legal analyst for CNN since 2001, Avery reaches a weekly audience of over 3,000,000 viewers.  He has crossed the nation, lecturing on federal civil rights law at over three dozen major law schools including Stanford, Duke, Berkeley, Michigan, Tulane and the University of Texas and has appeared as an expert on civil and constitutional rights before both the Senate and the House of Representatives in Washington, D.C.

Avery has received the Legendary Champion of Civil Rights Award by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the Freedom Award by the NAACP, the Dr. Martin Luther King Memorial Human Rights Award, and “the Avery Friedman Human Rights Scholarship” at Ursuline College was recently named in his honor.
